Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 31, 2026

Life Recorder ("the App") is built around one principle: your audio belongs to you and stays on your device. This policy explains what the App does with data, in plain language.

Audio recordings

While listening, the App keeps a rolling buffer of recent audio on your device only. Audio older than the buffer window is continuously and permanently discarded. When you tap save, the selected minutes are stored as a recording file in the App's private storage on your phone.

On-device transcription

Transcription runs entirely on your phone using a locally downloaded speech-recognition model. The audio being transcribed and the resulting text are processed and stored only on your device. Automatic transcripts may contain mistakes.

Settings backup

Android's built-in app backup keeps a copy of the App's settings only (for example your recording schedule and preferences) in your own Google account, so they come back after a reinstall or on a new phone. Recordings, the audio buffer and transcripts are never included in that backup. You can turn app backup off in your phone's Google settings.

Optional Google Drive backup (if enabled)

If you enable the backup feature (where available), saved recordings are uploaded to a folder in your own Google Drive account, using access you grant via Google. Next to each recording the App also stores a small metadata file with the recording's title, capture time, duration and, if you transcribed it on your device, the transcript, so that a reinstall brings everything back. The files go directly from your device to your Drive — we never receive or store them. You can turn backup off at any time in the App's settings, and revoke the App's Drive access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Analytics and crash data

To understand usage and fix problems, the App uses Google Firebase services (Analytics, Crashlytics and Remote Config). These collect:

This data contains no audio and no recording content. It is processed by Google according to Firebase's privacy documentation.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details.

Invite a friend

To count invites and grant the free month, the App signs in to Firebase anonymously and stores your invite code, the anonymous ids of installs made from your link and the dates of the rewards. These records contain no name, email, device identifier, recording or contact, and nothing links them to you.

Permissions the App requests

Data retention and deletion

All recordings, transcripts and settings live in the App's private storage on your device. Uninstalling the App deletes them. There is no account; the anonymous invite records above hold nothing that identifies you.

Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 and requires accepting the Terms of Use.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
