Privacy Policy
Life Recorder ("the App") is built around one principle: your audio belongs to you and stays on your device. This policy explains what the App does with data, in plain language.
Audio recordings
While listening, the App keeps a rolling buffer of recent audio on your device only. Audio older than the buffer window is continuously and permanently discarded. When you tap save, the selected minutes are stored as a recording file in the App's private storage on your phone.
- Recordings are never uploaded to us. We have no servers that receive your audio and no way to access it.
- Audio leaves your device only when you explicitly share a recording or transcript through an app you choose.
- Deleting a recording in the App, or uninstalling the App, permanently removes it from your device.
On-device transcription
Transcription runs entirely on your phone using a locally downloaded speech-recognition model. The audio being transcribed and the resulting text are processed and stored only on your device. Automatic transcripts may contain mistakes.
Optional Google Drive backup (if enabled)
If you enable the backup feature (where available), saved recordings are uploaded to a folder in your own Google Drive account, using access you grant via Google. The files go directly from your device to your Drive — we never receive or store them. You can turn backup off at any time in the App's settings, and revoke the App's Drive access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Analytics and crash data
To understand usage and fix problems, the App uses Google Firebase services (Analytics, Crashlytics and Remote Config). These collect:
- Anonymous usage events (e.g. which screens and features are used);
- Crash reports and diagnostics (device model, OS version, stack traces);
- Approximate, coarse information derived by Google (e.g. country).
This data contains no audio and no recording content. It is processed by Google according to Firebase's privacy documentation.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details.
Permissions the App requests
- Microphone — the core function: recording audio into the on-device buffer.
- Notifications — the recording status notification and save buttons.
Data retention and deletion
All recordings, transcripts and settings live in the App's private storage on your device. Uninstalling the App deletes them. There is no account and nothing to delete on our side.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and requires accepting the Terms of Use.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
