save the moment after it happens

Life Recorder quietly remembers the last hour of audio around you. A funny thing your kid said, a sudden idea, a detail from a call — tap once and it's saved, even though the moment already passed.

Life Recorder Android app recording screen — save the last minutes of audio after they happened

How it works

No planning, no pressing record at the right time. It already was.

Life Recorder is a free Android app that keeps a rolling one-hour audio buffer on the phone; one tap saves the last minutes after the moment happened. Audio never leaves the device.

1. Start once

Tap START and Life Recorder listens in the background, keeping a rolling buffer of the recent past. Old audio is continuously discarded — nothing piles up.

2. Life happens

Something worth keeping? Save the last 5, 10 or any custom number of minutes — from the app, the notification, or the home-screen widget.

3. Keep just the moment

Play it with a waveform, trim to the exact seconds, share anywhere — or turn it into text with one tap.

See it in action

26 seconds is all it takes.

Features

Small app, sharp purpose — with a couple of superpowers.

Retroactive saving

The whole point: save audio AFTER it happened. Up to a full hour back, cut to the minute.

📝

On-device transcription

Turn any recording into text in ~100 languages. The speech model runs entirely on your phone — audio never leaves it.

✂️

Trim with live waveform

See the sound, drag the handles, keep exactly the seconds that matter.

🔋

Battery friendly

A recording schedule and skip-silence mode keep the buffer deep and the battery drain shallow.

🌍

Speaks your language

The app is available in 30 languages, with full right-to-left support.

🔒

Private by design

Recordings are never uploaded to us. Only what you explicitly save is kept — the rest is discarded as it ages out.

Made for moments like these

The same rolling hour, pointed at the moments people actually lose.

Record in the background, replay with a waveform, trim to the exact seconds.

Your privacy comes first

Your recordings are never uploaded to us — we have no servers that receive audio and no way to access it. Transcription runs locally, and only audio you explicitly save is kept. There is no account to create. Nothing goes to the cloud unless you turn on backup to your own Google Drive, or share a recording yourself. (The app does send anonymous usage and crash data through Firebase — never audio. Details in the privacy policy.)

FAQ

How can it record something that already happened?

While listening, Life Recorder keeps a rolling buffer of the last hour of audio. When you tap save, the last minutes of that buffer become a recording. Anything older than an hour is continuously and permanently discarded.

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

Never to us — we have no servers that receive audio. The buffer and your saved recordings live on your phone, and transcription runs entirely on-device. Audio leaves your phone only if you share it yourself, or if you switch on the optional backup to your own Google Drive.

Can other apps or hackers access the recordings?

The buffer and your recordings live in the app's private storage, which Android walls off from every other app, and your phone's built-in encryption protects them at rest. Nothing is uploaded — there is no server to hack. Audio leaves your phone only if you share it yourself.

Does it drain the battery?

It's built to sip power. You can also set a recording schedule (only listen during chosen hours) and enable skip-silence so quiet stretches aren't stored at all.

Which languages can it transcribe?

About 100 spoken languages, automatically detected. The one-time speech model download (~380 MB) happens over Wi-Fi; after that transcription works offline. Automatic transcripts may contain mistakes.

What is free and what is PRO?

Listening, saving, trimming and sharing are free, with no account. PRO adds on-device transcription, skip silence and backup to your own Google Drive: $1.99 a month or $11.99 a year, with a free first week. Invite a friend and you both get a month of PRO free.

Is it legal to record?

Laws differ by country. In some places you must have the consent of everyone being recorded — please make sure you comply with your local laws.
